When Wichita area patients may need Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is often needed to help maintain a natural tooth. When patients are at risk of infection of the dental pulp within the tooth, they may need to either undergo an extraction or speak to a dental professional in the Wichita area about root canal treatment.

Root canal treatment is commonly performed to protect patients from pain and discomfort from an infection. Most patients may notice that their tooth becomes discolored. Teeth with infected dental pulp may appear gray in color, which is often a result of trauma. This is the cause of the discoloration and may be addressed with endodontic therapy.

Another sign of infection is pain. This can also be caused by deep areas of dental decay. When they reach the nerves, it can cause a toothache that can only be relieved by extraction or endodontic therapy.

These are just external signs that treatment is necessary. In order to determine the true need for root canal therapy, patients must undergo an examination at East Wichita Dentist. The team at our practice is well versed in helping patients of all ages maintain their natural tooth structure by performing endodontic therapy. X-rays can show damage underneath the enamel that cannot be seen with a physical evaluation. Diagnostic testing can be done to check the dental pulp and determine if it needs to be removed.

During root canal therapy, the dental pulp is removed from inside the tooth. The area inside of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected before being filled with gutta percha. Gutta percha is a special material used during endodontic treatment that maintains the health and structure of the tooth. Patients who have root canal treatment may also need to have a dental crown placed over the tooth to protect it from damage as it now may become brittle due to the procedure.

If you are interested in learning more about endodontic therapy and believe root canal treatment may benefit the health and wellbeing of your smile, contact the team of East Wichita Dentist today to schedule your evaluation.

Such an amazing dental office! The staff is so nice and welcoming. I felt right at home. They used sedation dentistry on me and it took all the fear from me and it didn't even hurt. I have never met a dental office that is so easy to talk to! Love them
