The staff are always friendly and patient with my family. My children like coming to this clinic as well. Thank You East Wichita Dentist!
There is a common myth that baby teeth don't need special attention, because they are temporary anyway. However, a deep cavity or infection in a baby tooth is just as painful as in an adult tooth. Additionally, preserving these teeth is crucial for your child's development. They act as space holders for permanent teeth and enable the child to chew efficiently and speak clearly. Additionally, good (or bad) habits formed at an early age can stick with your child for life.

What you can do

For children or adults, good oral health begins at home. How should you care for your kid's teeth?
  • Start before the child has teeth. A baby's gums should be wiped gently with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Use an appropriate toothbrush. From the time your baby has one tooth, brushing is important. Choose a soft bristled toothbrush that fits the child's mouth. When he or she starts learning to brush, look for a toothbrush designed to be comfortable for little hands.
  • As soon as there are two or more teeth touching, start using floss.
  • Introduce fluoride toothpaste when your child is capable of spitting effectively, usually around the age of two.
  • Don't give your child a bottle at bedtime, unless it contains only water. Juice or milk, even watered down, can lead to decay.

When to see a dentist

Your child's first dental appointment should be scheduled soon after the first tooth appears – no later than 12 months of age. Regular checkups will be needed, and it's important to see your dentist ASAP if you notice a cavity or other oral health problem.

We love bringing children up in our dental family, and helping them maintain great oral health. Our staff members are excellent with children, ensuring they feel safe and welcome in our office. We use nitrous oxide, an analgesic (painkiller) to keep your child comfortable, but we do not sedate children. An unruly or uncooperative child will usually be referred to a specialist.

We provide quality care for patients of all ages, and we look forward to seeing your family. Call (316) 686-7395, or use the form at the side of this page to schedule an appointment at East Wichita Dentist.
